Mother, daughter die as truck hits bike in Kushtia

Three people were killed and 19 injured in road accidents in two districts on Friday night, according to reports from our correspondents.

In Kushtia, a woman and her 12-year-old daughter were killed and her husband was injured when a truck hit their motorbike in Kumarkhali upazila.

Amena Khatun (38) and her daughter Joya died on the spot, said police.

Her husband, Sohrab Hossain, broke his right arm and was admitted to Kushtia General Hospital, said Kumarkhali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Kamruzzaman Talukder.

The OC said Sohrab was returning home from his in-law's house with his wife and daughter on the motorcycle. Around 9:00pm, a truck hit their motorcycle from behind at Alauddin Nagar intersection, he added.

The trucker managed to flee the scene with the truck, said the police officer.

In Dinajpur, an engineer of the Local Government and Engineering Department was killed and 18 were injured as a speeding pickup hit his motorcycle in Ghoraghat upazila.

After hitting the bike, the pickup fell into a roadside ditch, said police.

Md Mozahar Ali (28), deputy assistant engineer of LGED in Polashbari, Gaibandha, died instantly.

The law enforcers said he was going to Gobindaganj upazila riding the motorcycle. The accident happened when he arrived at Hilimor on Dinajpur-Gobindaganj road.

All the injured were travelling in the pickup, which they seized, said Ghoraghat Police Station OC Abu Hasan Kabir.
