Child, 3 others drown in three districts

Four people -- a two-year-old child, two HSC candidates, and a university student -- drowned yesterday.

In Lalmonirhat, a child fell into a canal while playing next to it and drowned when he was on a visit to a relative's house in Aditmari upazila.

Kawsar Ali, 2, son of Mostakin Ali of the district's Kaliganj upazila, was rescued and taken to Aditmari Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead, said Aditmari Police Station OC Mozammel Haque.

In Rangpur, two HSC candidates went missing in the Teesta River in Gangachara upazila.

Munna Mia, 18, and Nais Ahmed, 19, were from the upazila's Nohali union.

Firefighters has began a rescue operation, said Mamatajul Islam, the station officer of the Gangachara Fire Service.

In Chattogram, a university student drowned at Bilashi waterfall in Sitakunda upazila.

AKM Naimul Hasan, 20, a second-year honours student at International Islamic University Chittagong, slipped and fell into the waterbody created by the waterfall and drowned, said Firoj Miah, station officer of the Kumira Fire Service.
