Bus runs over, kills 10-year-old in Tongi
A schoolgirl was killed as a bus ran over her in Gazipur's Tongi this morning (July 23, 2022).
The deceased was identified as Fatema Haque (10), a class three student of Tongi Sahaj Uddin Sarkar School and College, reports our Gazipur correspondent quoting Jabed Masud, officer-in-charge (OC) of Tongi (East) Police Station.
For all latest news, follow The Daily Star's Google News channel. The accident happened in Dattapara area around 7:30 am when Fatema was going to school with her aunt Shahnaz Begum in an auto-rickshaw, the OC said.
The staff bus of Kohinoor Chemical Limited hit the auto-rickshaw from behind making Fatema fall from the vehicle. The bus then ran over her head leaving her dead on the spot, said the police official.
The aunt sustained minor injuries, he added.
The OC said police seized the bus but its driver managed to flee. Legal steps are being taken in this regard.
