Auto-rickshaw driver killed in Noakhali road accident

A driver was killed today in a head-on collision between his CNG-run auto-rickshaw and a bus in Sonaimuri upazila of Noakhali.

The deceased was identified as Md Manik, 36, of Hanubais village under Ramganj upazila of Laxmipur, reports our Noakhali correspondent quoting police.

Sonaimuri Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Ziaul Haque said the accident took place on the Chatkhil-Sonaimuri highway in Bhaor Kot area of Joyag union of the upazila around 2:00pm.

After the accident, Angry locals set the bus on fire and demonstrated by blocking traffic on the road, he said.

The bus has been seized, he said, adding the driver and helper of it fled after the incident.

Legal action will be taken if a complaint is filed, he said.
