6-yr-old killed on road
A six-year-old boy was killed after a bus hit him and another ran over him while he was walking with his father on the side of a road in Dhaka's Khilgaon area.
The incident took place in Khilgaon's Trimohony Imambagh area around 5:30pm.
Al Rahid, a first-grader, was declared dead when he was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 7:00pm.
He and his two siblings lived with their parents in a rented apartment in Khilgaon's Nandipara.
Akhtar Hossain, his father, said, "Rahid wanted to watch fishing. I was taking him to a nearby waterbody where people fished. When we reached Imambagh area, we saw buses being driven recklessly on the Demra-Rampura Highway.
"At one point, a bus of Asmani Paribahan struck my son, who was holding my hand, and dragged him a few yards away."
After that, another bus coming from behind ran over him.
He added, "After being denied by three private hospitals, I was finally able to admit my son to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead."
Farukul Alam, officer-in-charge of Khilgaon Police Station, said, "First the Demra-bound Asmani Paribahan bus hit the boy. As he fell on the highway, another Rampura-bound Alif Paribahan bus ran over him and left him critically injured."
"Both buses were seized and the drivers were also detained following the incident," the OC added.
The body was taken to the hospital morgue, said Bachchu Mia, in charge of the DMCH police outpost.
