2 children drown in Jatrabari pond

Two children drowned in a pond in Dhaka's Konapara area under Jatrabari Police Station area this morning.

The deceased were identified as Siam, 11, and Safinur Babu, 10.

The incident took place around 11:30am as the duo along with other children got into the pond to bathe after playing at a field near Shahriar Steel Mills Ltd, said Rumon Mia, Babu's cousin.

Informed of the incident by the other children, locals took them out of the pond in an unconscious state, he said.

They were rushed to a local hospital first.

Siam was later taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Babu's family took him to Mugda Medical College Hospital where he was declared dead, said Mofizul Alam, officer-in-charge of Jatrabari Police Station.
