12-year-old drowns in Khagrachhari’s Chengi River

A 12-year-old girl drowned in the Chengi River at the Shutokarma area in Panchhari upazila of Khagrachhari today (July 22, 2022).

The deceased Bhoishakhi Chakma was a class six student at Sunrise Kindergarten School, reports a correspondent quoting Ansarul Karim, officer-in-charge of Panchhari Police Station.

Quoting family members, the OC said, locals last saw Bhoishakhi playing near the river, adjacent to Uttar Shantipur area this noon.

"As she did not return to the house even after 2:00 pm, her family started searching for her and found her body in the river around 3:30 pm," said the OC.

OC Ansarul said many children are dying every monsoon season due to a lack of awareness among local residents.

Terming the death unexpected, the OC said to take steps to increase awareness among locals.
