A Narayanganj court yesterday sentenced four people to death and two others to life-term imprisonment for killing Emon Hossain (13) in 2013.

“The cargo vessel MV Rupshi-9, which hit the launch ML Afsar Uddin in the Shitalakkhya River in Narayanganj Sadar upazila today, was 2-3 feet away. Then, some of us went to the driver of the launch and told him that ‘the cargo vessel is about to hit the launch’. But he rebuked us saying that nothing will happen. Later, we jumped from the launch. If we stayed two or three more minutes in the launch, we would sink in the water along with the launch. Within 30-40 seconds, the cargo vessel pushed the launch.”
