3 killed in auto-rickshaw, pickup collision in Dhamrai

Three people, including a CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver, were killed and two others injured when the auto-rickshaw collided head-on with a pickup van in Dhaka's Dhamrai upazila today.

The deceased were identified as Akhi Akter, 30, her nephew Zakaria, 12, and driver Jewel, 40.

The accident took place around 2:30pm on a road in the Nandeswari Bottola area of Amta union, said Sub-Inspector Md Elias Hossain, in-charge of Kawalipara Police Outpost under Dhamrai Police Station.

He said the auto-rickshaw driver and two passengers suffered critical injuries in the accident. They were taken to Saturia Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared them dead.

Elias further said five members of the same family, including two children, had gone to Moinul Ghat in the auto-rickshaw for an outing. They were returning home when the accident occurred.

Two other family members suffered minor injuries, the SI added.
