HP unveils new server line in local market

Danny Tay, business director for Asia EC of HP Enterprise Server and Storage, speaks at the event
Since the debut of client-server technology in early 80s, the world market immediately recognised its necessity as it would help organisations to build up their own network and set up an intranet for its stakeholders and value chain partners. Server is defined as a combination of hardware and software designed to provide services to the clients and it sets the rules for the network and provides every client with an address so others can find it on the network. Like other server manufacturers, Hewlett-Packard (HP) is serving the industry for a very long period of time. On Tuesday at a seminar in the capital, HP announced the launch of new HP ProLiant Generation 6 (G) server line, which delivers double the performance of previous generations, enabling customers to get more value out of every cent they spend in the IT sector. The ProLiant G6 line's advances in energy efficiency, virtualisation and automation, make it ideal for all customers. These innovations are combined with comprehensive service offerings to redefine server economics. The new ProLiant G6 servers are available in 11 standards-based tower, rack and blade platforms. This represents the largest ProLiant rollout in company history. On the occasion, Steven Kim, general manager of Technology Solutions Group for Asia emerging countries, HP, gave the welcome speech to the audience saying that "Building on HP's long history of hardware and software development, G6 brings together the best HP innovations in energy efficiency, virtualisation and services to enable our customers to do more with less." Danny Tay, business director for Asia emerging countries of HP Enterprise Server and Storage, gave the demonstration of the ProLiant G6 platform, based on Intel Xeon 5500 processors. The series contains servers like the ProLiant DL380, DL370, DL360, DL180 and DL160 rack-optimized servers; the ProLiant BL 490c, BL 460c and BL 280c server blades; and the ProLiant ML370 and ML150 tower servers. The common criteria that every server of the line contains are they are cost-effective and they save energies. These are the reasons why the architects of the design included features like Sea of Sensors, Common Power Slot Design and Dynamic Power Capping. The designers also ensured maximum productivity by including a comprehensive set of embedded technologies and flexible tools in the server infrastructure, including ProLiant Onboard Administrator, Insight Control Environment (ICE) management console and Virtual Connect Flex-10 Ethernet module. Zia Manzur, country business manager, Intel EM Ltd, Dhaka liaison office, said the ProLiant G6 platform builds upon the quality of the ProLiant brand to provide increased performance and customer value over previous generations. Zia also showed how the Nehalem Intel Xeon 5500 processors and new Smart Array Modular Controllers of HP deliver twice the memory and storage of previous generations as well as a 100 percent increase in overall performance. He also said tools like Server Migration Pack and Proactive Select will help the users in the upgrading process by automating migration from old servers to the ProLiant G6. Many local business emprises' owners, entrepreneurs, IT experts and professionals were present at the occasion.
