Six get life for acid attack on madrasa girl

A court here on Tuesday sentenced six youths to life term imprisonment for throwing acid on a madrasa girl in 2010. District and Sessions Judge Md. Ashraf Hossain also fined each of them Tk 50,000, in default, to suffer two years more in prison. The convicts are Yasin Arafat Sajib, Bihari Sharif, Giasuddin Raju, Shajahan Sunam, Mahmud and Parvez. Of them, Sajib, Sunam, Mahmud and Parvez are at large. Public prosecutor Emdad Hossain Koishor said the youths hurled acid on the girl while in sleep in Matipur area of the municipality on June 16 in 2010. The victim along with two other relatives sustained severe burn injuries in the acid attack. Following a case filed with Sudharam Model police station, SI Habibur Rahman, investigation officer of the case, submitted charge sheet against seven accused. The youths used to tease the girl on her way to madrasa, according to the case. After examining the records and witnesses, the judge handed down the verdict against six of the accused, acquitting the rest one. On April 30 last year, the youths threw acid also on the victim's elder sister after getting bail from the court. Mother of the girl then filed another case with the PS in this connection. The case is now under trail with the same court.
