Two Jubo League activists arrested in Patuakhali
Two Jubo League men were arrested on Monday night on charge of raping a 35-year-old housewife at Nijkata village under Rangabali upazila of the district.
Following a case filed by the victim on Monday, five days after the incident, Rangabali Police arrested Md Kawsar, 28, general secretary of Jubo League Mowdubi union unit, and Jahir, 27, a member of the unit, from their houses at the same village.
In the case statement, the victim stated that as her husband had gone fishing on the Bay, she along with her three daughters was asleep at their house. “Taking advantage of his absence, Kawsar and Jahir entered the house by breaking open the door at midnight on February 13 and raped me in front of my daughters,†she said.
She further stated that Kawsar and Jahir threatened to kill my daughters and asked them not to make a sound.
Police quoted locals as saying that the victim informed her neighbours of the matter the following day, but they advised her to go to the police station.
Her husband returned home on Wednesday and heard about the incident. When they were going to file a case with Rangabali Police Station on Thursday, they got waylaid by the rapists.
The victim along with her husband came to Patuakhali Police Station on Monday and told the law enforcers about the incident. Being informed by Patuakhali police, Rangabali Police Station recorded the case the same day and arrested the Jubo League men.
