771 Jamaat-Shibir men sued in two districts
Police filed cases against 771 Jamaat and Shibir activists in Chapainawabganj and Rangpur districts on Monday.
They sued 271 Jamaat-Shibir activists in Chapainawabganj on charge of obstructing police from duty and attacking police and local Awami League office, reports our correspondent.
Sub-Inspector Kabir Hossain of Shibganj police station filed the case with the PS at night.
Of the accused, 71 were named while 200 others remained unidentified.
Earlier, police arrested 7 Jamaat-Shibir activists from Shibganj municipal area on Monday afternoon.
Officer in-charge (OC) of Shibganj PS Zamil Uddin said, a group of Jamaat-Shibir activists brought out a procession near Academy area of Shibganj municipality and tried to stop the vehicular movement.
When police rushed to the spot and tried to disperse the procession, the activists attacked them.
Jamaat-Shibir men also brought out a procession at Shibganj bazar on Monday morning and ransacked chairs, tables, banners and screen of Gono Jagoran Mancha at T&T ground.
They also attacked Awami League office and ransacked it, police said.
Rangpur Kotwali police filed two separate cases on Monday against 300 leaders and activists of Jamaat-Shibir, reports our correspondent.
The cases were filed on charge of attack on police, arson and vandalising of two police pickup vans in the morning on Rangpur-Dinajpur highway in Hajirhat area in the city during the countrywide dawn-to-dusk hartal enforced by Jamaat-e-Islami.
Police and locals said, at around 11:00am on Monday, Jamaat-Shibir activists blocked Rangpur-Dinajpur highway in Hajirhat area by putting logs.
On information, police rushed to the spot and charged baton to disperse the pro-hartal activists, triggering a clash.
Jamaat-Shibir men attacked police with bamboo sticks, leaving at least 20 people including two police men injured. They also damaged a police van and set it on fire.
Following the incidents police lodged two separate cases accusing 300 Jamaat-Shibir leaders and activists at night.
Pirgachha police on Monday afternoon filed a case accusing 200 leaders and activists of Jamaat-Shibir for attack on police during the hartal hours on Monday in Deuty Bazaar area.
Jamaat-Shibir men attacked police, leaving Shahidul Islam 30, a constable of Pirgachha police station, injured.
He was admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
