Three killed over land dispute

Two people were killed in Mymensingh and another in Pabna over land dispute yesterday and the day before. Two cousins were killed and 10 others injured in clashes between two groups over a piece of disputed land at village Baithamari in Boror Char union of Mymensingh Sadar upazila yesterday morning. The victims were identified as Nurul Islam, 50, son of Rajab Ali and Mizanur Rahman, 30, a quack and son of Mahar Ali of Baithamari, reports our correspondent. Police said, there had been a longstanding dispute over the of land between cousins Nurul Islam and Mizanur Rahman. When Nurul Islam went to harvest mustard cultivated on the disputed land in the morning, Mizanur and his men rushed to the spot with sharp weapons and locked in a clash with Nurul Islam and his group around 9:30am. At one stage of clash, Mizanur Rahman sustained serious injuries and died on the spot. After killing of Mizanur, when Nurul Islam and his group were leaving the place, supporters of Mizanur chased Nurul Islam and attacked him with sharp weapons, killing him on the spot. Ten people were injured during the clashes. Of them, six were admitted to Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital (MMCH). The others were treated at local clinics. Police picked up five people from Baithamari village for their alleged involvement in the killings. In Pabna, a man was beaten to death allegedly by his rivals over land dispute at Narayanpur Tebunia village in Sadar upazila on Friday. The deceased was identified as Mosharraf Hossain, 55, a fish trader of the village, reports UNB. Locals said, Mosharraf had an enmity with Habib and Hamid over a piece of land. Hamid and Habib caught Mosharraf's son Al Amin, 25, and beat him mercilessly while he was returning home at about 12:00 noon, leaving him injured. Mosharraf was also injured as his rivals beat him up when he went to spot hearing his son's scream. Later, the injured father and the son were rushed to Pabna Medical College Hospital where the doctors declared Mosharraf dead.
