The victims hail from different areas of Dhaka, Satkhira, Jessore, Chuadanga and Pirojpur districts. They said human traffickers sent them to India two years ago, promising good jobs there. Indian police arrested them in Mumbai and later produced in court that sent them to a jail on charge of illegal entry into the country. Their release was facilitated following contacts between the home ministries of Bangladesh and India. The Bangladeshis returned home, availing the travel permit issued by the Indian government. Meanwhile, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members arrested 14 people, including children and women, from Putkhali border while they were going to India illegally through the border the same day. Of the arrestees, eight are men, four women and two children. They hail from different areas of Narail, Khulna and Barisal districts. Rafiqul Islam, Benapole BGB camp commander, said BGB personnel, acting on a tip-off, raided the area in the morning and arrested them. However, the traffickers, who brought the 14 people on the border, fled away sensing the presence of the border guards. Later, the arrestees were handed over to Benapole Port police Station.
