A court here on Sunday sentenced three people to life term rigorous imprisonment (RI) for kidnapping a 6-year-old boy five years ago. The convicts are Sanadul of Gangail village, Al Amin of Kismat Rasulpur village in Nandail upazila of Mymensingh district, and Abul Bahar of Tamni Konapara village in Karimganj upazila of Kishoreganj district. The court also fined them Tk 50,000 each, in default to suffer RI for six months more. It acquitted Jyotsna Begum, wife of Abul Bahar, of the case as the allegations against her could not be proved. According to the prosecution, on February 17, 2008, six-year-old Pallab Roy, son of Prasanto Roy of Pashcim Kandapara of Narsingdi town, was kidnapped by a gang from a playground when he was playing there with some other boys. The next day, the kidnappers demanded Tk. 1,50,000 from the victim's family over phone as ransom for his release. On the same day, Prasanto filed a case against Sanadul, Al Amin, Abul Bahar and his wife Jyotsna Begum with Narsingdi Model police station under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act. Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) and police rescued Pallab, conducting a joint drive and later police submitted charge sheet against the accused.
