56 Jamaat-Shibir, BNP men held in 3 districts

Law enforcers arrested 56 activists of BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir in Naogaon, Noakhali and Lalmonirhat districts yesterday and the day before. Our Chapainawabganj correspondent reported that police arrested 33 activists of Shibir, including its upazila unit president and secretary, at Baghapara in Manda upazila of Naogaon district yesterday. Abdullahel Baky, officer in-charge of Manda Police Station, said law enforcers arrested the Shibir men apprehending that they might conduct subversive activities. Acting on a tip-off, they raided the house of a local Jamaat activist Abul Hossain and arrested the Shibir men, including Sirajul Islam and Sohel Rana, president and secretary of Manda upazila unit, the OC said. In Noakhali, police arrested 22 Jamaat-Shibir and BNP activists from different areas of the district on Monday night, reports UNB. Of the arrestees, 17 are from BNP, three from Jamaat and two from Shibir, local people said. Police said they arrested the Jamaat-Shibir and BNP men apprehending that they might deteriorate law and order in the district. In Lalmonirhat, police arrested a Jamaat leader at Singimari village in Hatibandha upazila yesterday on charge of his bid to hold anti-government movement, reports our correspondent. The arrestee, Solim Uddin, 45, of the village, is a member of Singimari Union Parishad (UP). Tapos Kumar Sarker, officer in-charge of Hatibandha Police Station, said they, acting on a tip-off, raided the area and arrested Solim while he was holding a meeting with Jammat-Shibir men. Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, others fled the scene, said the OC.
