Members of local indigenous community in the district town formed a human chain in front of press club yesterday, demanding punishment to a few stalkers who allegedly instigated suicide by a teenage girl. Under the banner of Jatiya Adibasi Parishad of Chapainawabganj district unit, they also held a protest rally to press home their demand. At the rally, the speakers said Sheuli Rani, 14, daughter of Indrajit Roy of Amarok village in Sadar upazila, went to a field near their home for collecting straw on December 8. At that time, Sheuli was sexually harassed by one Khairul Islam of the village. Later, she returned home and took her life by taking poison. The speakers also alleged the indigenous girl might have committed suicide fearing social disgrace. A case was filed against five people, including Khairul, said Sadar police. The law enforcers recently arrested Khairul's father Hussain Ali and one Fatik Ali at the village in this connection.
