Bill placed in House seeking record keeping of foreign visitors

A private member's bill was placed in parliament proposing to enact a law for collecting and preserving information of foreigners who visit Bangladesh. The bill placed by Awami League MP Israfil Alam also proposed to set up a cell under the home ministry to keep all records on foreigners' entry to and departure from Bangladesh. According to provision of the bill, foreign citizens willing to visit Bangladesh will have to fill up a registration form along with the application seeking Bangladeshi visa. All Bangladeshi missions in abroad will collect and send the forms to the cell under the home ministry for preserving them. The bill also proposed that an individual may be fined with Tk 1 lakh for providing false information in the form and s/he may be sentenced to jail for one month for failure to pay the fine. If any Bangladeshi citizen is found involved with giving false information, s/he will also face the same punishment. The bill was sent to the parliamentary standing committee on the private members' bill and resolution for scrutiny.
