5 traffickers of women held, 3 rescued

Police yesterday arrested five traffickers of women and rescued three victims from Fatikchhari upazila in Chittagong. Police rescued cousins Johra Akter, 27, and Rofiqa, 17, and Nur Kalima, 12, who, according to the law enforcers, is a Rohingya refugee without any understanding of Bangla language. The arrestees are Nur Hossain, 25, Abdus Sukkur, 32, Sultana Kamal, 19, Sukkur's wife Parvin Akter, 25 and Sharmin Akter 28, all from Fatickchari upazila. Acting on a tip off, police found the victims confined in a house. Quoting the victims, police said Nur Hossain and Sukkur lured them by promising to give them better jobs in Malaysia but instead kept them confined in the house. The rescued women alleged that the traffickers took Tk 2 lakh from each. Johra's mother lodged a case against the traffickers. Police said the victims and arrestees have been sent to Chittagong Senior Judicial Magistrate's Court.
