Body of youth killed by BSF returned
A young cattle trader, who was shot dead allegedly by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) on Sunday, was returned to Birampur police in the district yesterday.
The victim, Md Abul Kashem, 26, was son of Altab Hossain alias Montu Mia of Nishibapur village in Birampur upazila, said BGB Phulbari-40 battalion sources.
BSF opened fire on Kashem and other cattle traders when they entered Indian territory on Sunday night, BGB sources said.
The following day, locals found Kashem's body floating in a pond, said Jahidul Islam, sub-inspector at Birampur police station.
Later, BSF handed over the body to police at around 5:20pm yesterday through border at Khiarmahmudpur village, he added.
Earlier, a battalion commander level flag meeting between the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and BSF was held on the border over the issue, said the SI.
Md Farid Hossain, company commander of BGB at Bhaigarh camp, said Kashem fell in the pond after he was shot by BSF.
