Pvt clinic sealed as two newborns die in a day
District health administration yesterday sealed Tekerhat Central Clinic in Rajoir upazila where two newborn babies died due to alleged negligence of the clinic authorities.
All the patients of the private clinic were shifted to the upazila health complex following the incident.
Kanika Biswas, wife of Shankar Biswas, of Nagordi village was admitted to the clinic with labour pain on Saturday evening, sources said.
Dr Apurba Kumar Mallik at the clinic performed the caesarean operation on Kanika who gave birth to a baby. But the infant died soon after the operation.
On the same day, one Shewly Begum gave birth to a baby at around 9:00pm.
But the child died soon after a nurse pushed an injection on the newborn at around 3:00am.
As the death news spread, family members of the victims became agitated, creating a tense situation in the area.
On information, upazila health and family planning officer Dr Moshiur Rahman and a team of Rajoir police visited the spot and sealed the clinic on charge of negligence of the authorities leading to death of the two babies.
