Rivals accuse Gaibandha BNP chief of corruption

Internal feud in Gaibandha BNP surfaced after district unit general secretary brought some allegations against the president at a press conference here yesterday. General Secretary Gausul Azam Dollar accused district unit President Anisuzzaman Khan Babu of carrying out organisational activities, sidelining the devoted leaders and activists, forming upazila BNP units with his relatives and chosen people and illegally collecting toll in the name of party. Dollar in his written statement alleged that district unit president Babu has formed the upazila committees without following the rules and procedures. His relatives have occupied at least 15 important posts of the district and upazila units, he said. Babu's elder brother Wahiduzzaman Khan Titu is holding the post of president of BNP Gaibandha municipality unit and his close relative Shakil Ahmed Pipul is holding the post of general secretary of the unit, Dollar said, adding that the district unit president did not include the active and devoted leaders and workers in the committees. Former district BNP president Seikh Samad Azad, former district unit general secretary Kamrul Hasan Salim, former pourasava unit president Rezaul Haq Chowdhury, Abdul Hadi, Alamgir Sadulla Dudu, TM Abu Bakker siddique, Taherul Islam Ranju, Abdur Razzak Bhutu, Abdul Hamid Santu, and Abdus Samad Mondol also addressed the conference held at the local press conference. At the press conference, the leaders and activists of the rival group urged the party's central leadership to take immediate action against Anisuzzaman Khan Babu for smooth running of the party's organisational activities in the district. Former lawmaker Saiful Alam Saja and aggrieved leaders Moklesur Rahman, Shahzada Anwarul Kadir, Delwer Hossain Delu, and Amirul Islam Faku were also present.
