Passengers of Lalmonirhat- Burimari route confined a stationmaster to his office for about an hour after the departure schedule of a train was cancelled 'all of a sudden' on Saturday night. The cancellation of the train schedule caused untold sufferings to the passengers, including children and patients, who waited at Lalmonirhat railway station for about seven hours. The Burimari-bound train was scheduled to leave the station at 8:00pm, said railway official sources. Earlier, several hundred passengers reached the station and waited for the departure of the train. After one and a half hours, the stationmaster Dewan Mohammad Nizam Uddin announced that the schedule of the train was cancelled due to locomotive crisis. Angered, the passengers, who finally left the station by another train at about 3:00pm, confined Nizam Uddin to his office. He however ,was rescued by police later. One of the passengers, Motaleb Hossain, said the authorities came up with the announcement when no bus was available on the route. Another passenger Tobarok Hossain, who waited for the train along with his ailing mother, said the condition of his mother deteriorated further following cancellation of the train. Nizam Uddin said the authorities cancelled the schedule of the train as its locomotive was used for carrying a Rangpur Express as its engine went out of order near Chowdhurani railway station at night.
