Bablu Murder
Case filed against councillor Bachchu

Mir Enam Ali Bachchu, councillor of Rajbari municipality, has been sued for his alleged involvement in the killing of SM Shamsul Alam Bablu, an activist of opposition BNP's Rajbari district unit, early Friday. Bablu, also the former convener of Jubo Dal district unit, the youth wing of BNP, was gunned down in the town at around 1:30am. Deceased's brother Shahidul Islam Shimul filed the case against Bachchu, also a leader of Jubo Dal district unit, with Rajbari Sadar Police Station the same day, said Police Superintendent Rezaul Haque. Sahab Uddin Khalifa, officer-in-charge (OC) of Rajbari Sadar Police Station, said a gang of criminals opened fire on Bablu in Binodpur area of the town while he was returning home from Rajbari Bazar at around 1:30am. The incident took place just 200 yards away from the Binodpur Police Camp. The OC said a team from the camp rushed to the spot hearing the shots and took Bablu to Rajbari Sadar Hospital where the doctors declared him dead. Immediately after the incident, police arrested Arif Biswas, an activist of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), for his alleged involvement in the killing. The victim had a rivalry with a group of JCD and Jubo Dal men of the district led by Mir Enam Ali Bachchu, a Jubo Dal leader and an incumbent councillor of Rajbari municipality, over establishment of supremacy in the area, the OC added.
