Jubo Dal activists assault newsman
Jubo Dal men assaulted a journalist in Kalanka bus stand area of the district yesterday morning.
Police and locals said a few Jubo Dal activists led by Nannu, 43, intercepted Russel Mollah, 30, Kalapara upazila correspondent of daily Ajkal published from Barisal, in the bus stand area when he was heading for Patuakhali from Kalapara upazila riding a motorbike.
They said Nannu and his men beat up Russel for publishing reports in the newspaper against him (Nannu).
At one stage, the Jubo Dal men tried to slit Russel's throat but local people foiled their bid and rescued him.
They chased the Jubo Dal activists and caught Nannu and his nephew Sakhawat while the rest managed to flee. The two were later handed over to the police.
Seriously injured Russel is undergoing treatment at Amtali Upazila Health Complex.
Babul Akhter, officer in-charge of Amtali police station, said they have arrested the two and are looking for others involved in the attack.
