Bus strike in Barisal called off
Indefinite bus strike, enforced on 11 routes in Barisal district by bus owners and workers on Saturday, was withdrawn yesterday evening.
Leaders of the district bus owners and transport workers associations said they called off the strike following a fruitful meeting with the district administration in the conference room of the deputy commissioner.
At the meeting the district administration assured the leaders of bus owners and workers associations of banning different types of illegal three wheelers like tomtom, nasimon, mishuk, alpha-mahendra on the roads, said Aftab Hossain, president of Barisal District Bus Owners Association.
He further said the administration also assured them of taking immediate steps against a few four wheelers like pickup, microbuses and trucks that are plying the roads without any registration, fitness certificate and route permit.
Chaired by Palash Kanti Bala, additional deputy commissioner, the meeting was attended by Alamgir Hossain, additional superintendent of police, Md. Nuruzzaman, deputy director of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority, Aftab Hossain and Alamgir Hossain, president and secretary of Barisal Bus Owners' Association, and Jahangir Hossain, president of Barisal Road Transport Workers' Union.
