19 including 4 policemen hurt as BCL, JCD clash
At least 15 activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) and four policemen were injured during a clash between the activists of JCD and Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) at Dighinala Degree College yesterday.
Of the injured, president of JCD Dighinala upazila unit Mohammad Sohrab Hossain, 30, its general secretary Monir Hossain, 28, members Mobarak Hossain and Shofikul Islam were admitted to Khagrachhari Adhunik Sadar Hospital in critical condition.
General secretary of JCD district unit Mohammad Khalilur Rahman said that the BNP-backed student front organised a protest rally in the college compound yesterday as part of country-wide programme.
He alleged that at least 20 BCL men attacked the JCD activists around 11:30am to foil the programme. At that time JCD was taking preparation to take out a protest procession, he said.
However, president of BCL district unit Iqbal Bahar, refuting the allegation, said that the incident was a sequel to the internal feud of JCD leaders.
Contacted, officer in-charge of Dighinala police station Shahadat Hossain Titu said, at least four police constables were injured during the clash. Among them, constable Ali Azam was admitted to Dighinala upazila health complex.
