The Daily Star-Robi English Fair

Students of six more schools in Panchagarh and Madaripur districts yesterday took part in joyful events at English language fairs held under English in Schools programme, a joint initiative of The Daily Star and mobile operator Robi. Adcomm Ltd is the creative and event partner of the fairs. Over 300 students of Panchagarh High School, Doctor Abeda Hafiz Girls' High School and College and Boda Pilot Girls' High School in Boda upazila of the district joined the English language fair held at Panchagarh High School. Md Asraf Ali, headmaster of Panchagarh High School, inaugurated the fair at around 11:00am. Teachers of the three schools and guardians of the students were present. Following screening of The Lion King, a globally renowned movie, the students of the schools participated in spot quiz, vocabulary test, and situation-based question answer--all based on the movie. Selected students also took part in extempore speech on different topics and role-play. Students entertained the audience by telling jokes and singing songs. Eighteen students won different competitions. Headmaster Asraf Ali distributed prizes among the winners at the end of the programme. Our Madaripur correspondent reported that at least 250 students from Mostafapur Multilateral High School, Char Mugria Girls'High School and Itkhola Bajitpur High School in Madaripur Sadar upazila eagerly took part in different competitions at the English language fair held Mostafapur Multilateral High School. Headmaster Nawabjan of Mostafapur Multilateral High School opened the fair at the school auditorium at around 11:00am. Teachers and guardians of the students were also present. After watching Lion King, a globally renowned movie, the students of the school participated in spot quiz, vocabulary test, one word question and quick questions--all based on the movie. Selected students also took part in extempore speech on different topics and role-play. The students also entertained the audience by telling jokes and singing songs. Prizes were distributed among the winners of different competitions at the end of the programme. An English language club was also formed. Aiming to promote English language learning among school students across the country, The Daily Star in cooperation with Robi undertook English in Schools programme in 2009.
