Croc kills fisherman

A fisherman was killed in an attack by a crocodile in a river in Chandpai Range of the East Sundarbans under Mongla upazila on Sunday. The deceased was identified as Abdul Hakim Talukdar, 38, son of Abdul Majid of Joymoni village in the upazila. DFO of East Sundarbans Mihir Kumar Do said, the crocodile attacked Hakim when he along with two other fishermen was catching fish in the nearby Shela River. The crocodile dragged him deep into the river. Later, the forest guards recovered the bruised body and handed it over to his family members. Sources said at least 200 fishermen, bowalis (firewood collectors) and mowalis (honey collectors) were killed in attack by tigers and crocodiles in in the Sundarbans in the last 10 years.
