Killing of Pabna trader triggers protest
Several hundred people of Shalgaria village yesterday formed a human chain in front of Pabna Press Club, demanding immediate arrest and punishment of the killers of a trader.
The leaders of Pabna Chamber of Commerce and Industries also took part in the programme organised by traders of Hospital Gate area.
The victim, Abdullah Al Mahmud, 30, of the village, had a mobile phone outlet in hospital market area, said family members.
An altercation took place between one Saddam, 25, and Mahmud over a trivial matter when they were playing football in hospital field of the village on Friday afternoon.
As a sequel to the incident, criminals stabbed the trader in front of his residence, leaving him critically injured at around 9:00pm.
He was rushed to Pabna Medical College and Hospital where the doctors declared him dead.
At the programme, the participants threatened to go for a tougher programme if their demand was not met immediately.
Afzal Hossain, officer in-charge of Pabna police station, said wife of the victim filed a case accusing five people.
