'Informant' of BSF detained

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel in Dimla upazila have detained a local schoolteacher on charge of being a paid informant of Indian Border Security Force (BSF). Later BGB handed him over to police after filing a case. Police produced the accused in Nilphamari court and sought five days' remand for interrogation. The court fixed the date for hearing of the remand prayer on 8 July. Arrestee Mir Masud Tarek alias Khokon, 48, of Paschim Kharibari village under Gayabari union in Dimla upazila is an assistant teacher at a local school. Police and BGB sources informed that BGB personnel posted at Kaliganj border operational post (BOP) detained him on Friday morning. Naik Subedar Zakir Hossain filed a case with Dimla PS in this connection at night. Sources said Mir Masud Tarek during primary interrogation confessed to BGB that he dispatched important information to BSF of India taking Tk 5,000/- a month for a long time. Contacted, Bachhu Molla, the company commander of BGB at Thanarhat Camp, confirmed the arrest of a schoolteacher on charge of dispatching information to BSF. He also said that the arrestee was doing it for a long time on monthly payment. He added that they seized important documents from his possession. The investigation officer of the case, Sub Inspector (SI) of police at Dimla PS ATM Golam Rasul, told newsmen that the BGB personnel handed over accused Masud Tarek to police at about 9:00pm on Friday. The accused could not be contacted as he was under police custody.
