Three women electrocuted

Three women, including two of a family, were electrocuted in Shibganj upazila of the district yesterday morning. The victims are Rumali Begum, 50, wife of Abu Sayeed, Rokeya Khatun, 60, wife of Mahidur Rahman, and her daughter-in-law Sonali Begum, 38, wife of Ahsan Ali, of Sanyasipur village in the upazila. Police and locals said Rumali went to her neighbour Rokeya's house in the morning to bring a packet of meat she stored in Rokeya's refrigerator. When she was returning home, Rumali came in contact with a snapped electric wire on the premises of Rokeya's residence around 9:00am. Rokeya and her daughter-in-law Sonali were also electrocuted when they tried to save Rumali. Locals rushed them to Shibganj upazila health complex where doctors declared them dead. On information, police recovered the bodies and sent those to Chapainawabganj Adhunik Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy, said Sub-Inspector Shahidul Islam of Shibganj police station.
