Young learners took part in amusing interactions at English language fairs held at seven schools in Brahmanbaria, Noakhali, and Nilphamari districts yesterday.
Under English in Schools (EIS) programme, The Daily Star and mobile operator Robi jointly organised the fairs in coordination with the education ministry. Adcomm Ltd is the creative and event partner of the fairs.
Our Brahmanbaria correspondent reported that over 300 students from Kasba Government Boys' High School, Kuti Girls' High School, Kasba Government Girls' High School and Kasba Adarsha High School joined the English language fair held at Kasba Government Boys' High School auditorium.
Abu Bakar Siddiki, headmaster of Kasba Government Boys' High School, inaugurated the fair. Teachers of the four schools, guardians of the students and Robi Area Manager Ifta Khairul Basher were present.
Following screening of The Lion King, a globally renowned movie, the students participated in spot quiz, vocabulary test, and situation-based question answer--all based on the movie. They also entertained the audience by reciting poems, telling jokes and singing songs.
Selected students took part in extempore speech on different topics and role-play. Prizes were distributed among the winners at the end of the programme.
In Noakhali, over 200 students of Maksuda Government Girls' High School and Bashurhat Government High School in Companiganj upazila joined the English language fair held Maksuda Government Girls' High School auditorium, reports our correspondent.
Shahidur Rahman, Maksuda Government Girls' High School, opened the fair in the afternoon.

Our Nilphamari correspondent adds: The English language fair at Domar Government Girls' School at Domar upazila headquarters in Nilphamari district saw lively participation of over 250 students of the school.
Sahana Bilkis, acting headmaster of the school, inaugurated the fair, at the school auditorium at around 11:00am. Robi official Masud Rana, teachers of the school and students' guardians were present.
The programme began with the screening of the globally renowned movie, The Lion King, followed by students' participating in one word question and answers, vocabulary test, situation based questions and answer--all based on the movie. Selected students took part in extempore speech and role play.

Aiming to promote English language learning among school students across the country, The Daily Star in cooperation with Robi undertook English in Schools programme in 2009.
Under the initiative, each of one thousand schools selected from 64 districts of the country receives three complimentary copies of The Daily Star five days a week.
