BCL, Jubo League men go on rampage
Protesting resignation of Noakhali AL secy
The activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League and Jubo League yesterday blocked Sonapur-Maijdee road for about three hours, protesting resignation of Ekramul Karim Chowdhury, AL district unit secretary and lawmaker from Noakhali-4 constituency.
They also vandalised at least five CNG-run auto-rickshaws and three buses during the protest. Besides, the protesters burnt furniture and electronic goods of the party office.
Ekramul submitted his resignation letter to the district president A.H.M Khairul Anam Chowdhury Salim on Monday on personal grounds.
Meanwhile, at least 35 people were injured as activists of BCL Chaumuhani S.A Government College unit clashed with the law enforcers in Begumgonj upazila of the district yesterday.
The clash ensued over distributing first year admission form at the college.
Amirul Alam, officer in-charge of Begumganj Upazila Model Police Station, said the BCL men asked principal Md Sahid Ullah to supply admission form for their candidates.
As the principal refused to do so, they tried to vandalise the office room of the college.
On information, police rushed in and obstructed the BCL men that led to the clash, the OC added.
