12 arrested on charge of attacking Kurigram DC
Police arrested 12 people from different parts of Ulipur upazila yesterday and the day before on charge of attacking the deputy commissioner of the district.
The arrestees are Abdul Halim, 25, Alal Hossain, 28, Fazlul Haque, 28, Bachchu, 30, Lal Mia, 32, Jahangir Alam, 40, Rafiqul Islam, 31, Shah Alam, 45, Babul Mia, 21, Faruk Hossain, 25, Nur Hossain, 25 and Jarif Uddin, 26, of Pachpir area in the upazila.
Nasir Uddin, officer in-charge of Ulipur police station, said a few transformers of Palli Biddyut Samity were stolen within a week in the area plunging the area into darkness.
Over 500 residents of the area on Saturday morning blocked Kurigram-Chilmari road for smooth power supply.
DC Md Habibur Rahman and some officials, who were passing by the road, tried to pacify them. But an agitator hit the DC with a stick, leaving him injured.
