Ansar man, two youths jailed for stalking

Mobile courts in Lalmonirhat and Netrakona yesterday jailed an Ansar member and two youths for stalking schoolgirls. A mobile court in Lalmonirhat jailed an Ansar for one year yesterday for stalking a schoolgirl near the Teesta Barrage at Dowani village in Hatibandha upazila, reports our correspondent. Convict Hafizul Islam, 30, of Sindurna village in the upazila has also been dismissed from his job, police said. Hafizul, a member of Teesta Barrage Ansar camp, stalked a girl student of class eight at Dowani High School in the morning when she was going to school alone, they said. When the girl informed the matter to her classmates and teachers, they besieged the Ansar camp. A large number of villagers also joined them. They also blocked Barokhata-Dimla road. At this, police from Hatibandha PS rushed to the camp and arrested accused Hafizul. Later, the mobile court led by executive magistrate Shakhawat Hossain sentenced Hafizul to one-year jail in presence of police, Ansar officials and locals. In Netrakona, a mobile court yesterday sentenced two youths to jail for sexually harassing a schoolgirl, reports our correspondent. The convicts are Sobhan Mia, 21, son of Dulal Mia and Sumon, 22, son of Mojibor Rahman of village Tanga in Sadar upazila. OC of Netrakona Sadar police station Azizur Rahman said Sobhan Mia was jailed for one year while Sumon got six months imprisonment. According to police, the two youths waylaid the daughter of one Chanfor Mia of same village when she was returning home from nearby Golam Hossen High School. The two youths also embraced the girl on the road. Hearing the girl's cry for help, locals rushed to the spot and rescued her. Later, police arrested the two youths from their houses and produced them before the mobile court.
