Trader beaten to death
A trader was beaten to death by criminals at Shamsur Rahman Road in Khulna city on Thursday morning.
The victim was identified as Uzzal Saha, 38, son of Mrinal Saha, of No. 2 Bankers' lane at Bagmara, reports a correspondent.
Police quoted witnesses as saying that Uzzal was going to Zohora Khatun Kindergarten riding a motorbike to pick up his daughter Tanisha Saha, 6, from the school.
When he reached near Rangdhanu Clinic and Diagnostics Complex at around 10:30am, a gang intercepted him. They hit Uzzal with iron rods and hockey sticks, leaving him critically injured.
Locals rushed Uzzal to Khulna Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries at around 11:30am.
Family members alleged that Uzzal was killed by a gang of drug peddlers as he recently organised a campaign against their activities in Bagmara area.
Sahabuddin Azad, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, said they were trying to unearth clues to the murder of Uzzal Saha.
