Classes, exams at Rangpur Govt College suspended

The authorities of Rangpur Government College yesterday suspended all academic activities and examinations until June 17, following a clash between the activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League and Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal and Chhatra Samaj on the campus. The college academic council took the decision at an emergency meeting. College sources said an activist of BCL college unit was driven out allegedly by the rival student fronts from Shahid Moslem Uddin Hostel in Central road area of the city on Wednesday night. Following the incident, the leaders and activists of BCL and JCD and Chhatra Samaj locked in a clash yesterday, leaving around 15 from both sides injured. The BCL men also stopped the Degree test examinations. All the parties brought out processions protesting the violence. Principal Suvbhash Candra Barman said all academic activities and examinations were suspended to avoid any further untoward situation. He, however, said a three-member investigation committee, headed by assistant professor Abdul Motalib, was formed to probe the incident. Altaf Hossain, officer in-charge of Kotwali police station, said additional police have been deployed on the campus.
