Abducted girl rescued, 5 arrested

Police rescued a madrasa girl from Bhatiari area under Sitakunda upazila of Chittagong on Wednesday night, 13 hours into abduction. They also arrested five people, including a woman, in connection with the incident. The arrestees are Md Alauddin, 23, son of Wahidur Rahman, Nafis Uddin Mahmud, 22, son of Hamidul Haq, Abdul Kader, 39, son of Bazlur Rahman, Jannat Ara, daughter of Safor Alam and an ambulance driver Abu Taiyob, 42. Monir Hossain, in-charge of Bogdadia Police Camp, said a gang of criminals allegedly led by a youth named Alauddin picked up the girl in an ambulance while she was going to Shibpur Mohila Dhakil Madrasa under Fazilpur Union of Feni Sadar upazila. Police quoted locals as saying that the youth used to tease the girl on her way to and from the madrasa. On secret information, police conducted a drive in Bhatiari area and rescued the girl from the ambulance at BMA gate at around 9:30pm. Police also arrested the five from the vehicle. Police produced the arrestees in a Feni court yesterday, seeking a five-day demand. The court fixed June 10 for hearing on the remand prayer and sent them to jail.
