Attacks on Students by Outsiders
BAU expels 2 students for their 'involvement'
Two students of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) were expelled for one year each from the university for their alleged involvement in the attacks on general students yesterday and on Wednesday night.
The expellees are Rafiul Hasan Ronin and Nashid Kamal Kiron, both final year students of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry faculties, said BAU sources.
At least 10 students were injured in the attacks. Of the injured, one was admitted to Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital (MMCH) while the rest were given first aid.
Police said a group of outsiders allegedly led by the expellees assaulted some students, leaving them injured on the campus on at around 9:00pm on Wednesday over having tea at a stall.
Later, the general students torched a motorbike on the campus protesting the attack.
At least three students were injured yesterday morning as the same group vandalised a students' bus in front of BAU administrative building
Protesting the attacks, the agitating students blocked Dhaka-Mymensingh rail route for about two hours, causing immense sufferings to the passengers.
On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
A three-member probe body headed by Prof Mohammad Shamsuddin was formed to investigate the incident.
