AL, Jubo Dal men stabbed to death

An Awami League leader and a Jubo Dal leader have been stabbed to death in Munshiganj and Jessore. Ripon Fakir, 40, son of Sikim Ali Fakir of Shimulia village under Tongibari upazila of the district, died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital yesterday while undergoing treatment for stab injuries he sustained at Shimulia village on Sunday night, reports our Munshiganj correspondent. Ripon Fakir was president of No-4 ward unit of local Awami League. As a sequel to previous enmity centring offering prayers at a local mosque, a gang stabbed Ripon and left him in a critical condition on Sunday midnight, police said. Locals rushed him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries yesterday morning. Swapon, brother of the deceased, filed a case with Tongibari police station in this connection. Our Benapole correspondent adds: A leader of Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal was hacked to death in Chougachha upazila under Jessore district yesterday. The victim, Raihan Uddin, 30, was general secretary of Fulsora union unit of Jubo Dal, a youth front of main opposition BNP. Criminals led by one Bishe Member intercepted the truck carrying Raihan and his companions at Sadipur village while they were returning to Chougachha after watching a jatra (open air drama) at Kotchandpur around 4:00am. The criminals stabbed Raihan indiscriminately, leaving him critically injured. He was rushed to Jessore Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to the injuries at around 10:00am.
