50 injured as villagers clash in Habiganj
At least 50 people, including women, were injured in a fierce clash between two rival groups of people over previous enmity at Noagaon village in Ajmiriganj upazila of Habiganj district on Wednesday.
Locals said three years ago, Renu Mia and Zaher Ali's son Saifur Rahman of the village locked in an attercation over a trifling matter and. at one stage Renu stabbed Saifur indiscriminately, leaving him dead on the spot.
Later, Saifur's brother Sajidur Rahman filed a murder case against 30 people including Renu with Ajmiriganj PS. Since then Renu and his men started putting pressure on Sajidur to withdraw the case which he refused.
On Wednesday morning, Renu and his supporters attacked and vandalised the house of Sajidur and looted valuables.
Later, both the groups equipped with sharp weapons attacked each other, leaving 50 people from both sides injured.
On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
Of the injured Mukta Bibi, 50, and Ziabur Mia, 30, were rushed to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital in critical condition while others to Ajmiriganj upazila health complex and Habiganj Sadar Hospital.
