500 kgs of polythene bags seized

The Department of Environment (DoE) seized 500 kilograms of banned polythene bags from eight shops in Chittagong city yesterday. It also issued a show-cause notice and summoned the authorities of these eight shops to be present at a hearing at the department's Chittagong office today (Thursday). A DoE enforcement team led by Deputy Director (Chittagong) Golam Mohammad Bhuian made the seizure, conducting two separate drives in two markets. At Karnaphuli Shopping Complex in Nasirabad area, the team seized 200 kgs of polythene bags from five shops--Nazim Store, Macca Store, Nur Store, Biplob Store, and Shahidul Store, while at Golam Rasul Market in Reaz Uddin Bazar area, around 300 kgs of polythene bags were seized from Strang Variety, Suman Store, and Bhai Bhai Store.
