6 Jamaat men hurt in BCL attack
Six leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami including a Surah member and district unit ameer were injured as Chhatra League activists attacked district Jamaat office in the town Friday night.
Witnesses said, local Chhatra League activists brought out a procession at about 9pm protesting the killing of a fellow worker following a feud over gambling. The attack was made by the processionists, they said.
District unit Jamaat secretary Master Nurunnabi alleged that the BCL activists vandalised the office, looted valuables and damaged 10 motorbikes and furniture. They also exploded bombs to create panic in the area, he said.
Surah member Maulana Azizur Rahman and district ameer Abdur Rashid were among the injured.
Additional Police Superintendent Zakir Hossain Khan said police and Rab forces have been deployed to stop any further untoward incident.
However, district BCL leader Anwar Hossain Bipul claimed that they did not attack Jamaat office.
