Border <i>haat</i> now to open 1 May

The much-awaited border haat (market) at remote Dolura frontier in Sunamganj district would now start on 1 May, officials said yesterday. The country's second Border haat was earlier set to be opened 24 April. The first one at Kurigram border was launched in July last year. Contacted, deputy commissioner of Sunamganj Md. Yamin Chowdhury told this correspondent yesterday that border haat management committees of both sides, in presence of BSF and BGB officials, set the new date. The final preparatory meeting was held between the officials concerned of both sides on 26 April, Chowdhury added. Additional district magistrate of Sunamganj Md. Momtaj Uddin, who is heading the border haat management committee, said they sat with the Indian officials Thursday afternoon and decided to start the haat on 1 May.
