Four firearms recovered, six arrested in 3 dists

Four firearms were recovered and six people arrested in this connection in Sirajganj, Jessore and Joypurhat districts on Friday. Locals rounded up three people and handed them over to police with a country-made pistol and a pipe gun in Sirajganj Sadar upazila on Friday, reports our correspondent. The arrestees are Babu Sheikh, 20, son of Raham Ali Sheikh of Saidabad village, Abdul Alim, 25, son of late Idris Ali of same village and Rokon Sheikh, 23, son of Aser Uddin of Barosaratia village under Sadar upazila. Police said when the chairman of Saidabad union parishad was conducting a salish (arbitration) at his Sadanandapur residence on Friday afternoon, a group of youths were roaming there suspiciously. Local people caught and locked them in a room and informed police. Later, as per their confessional statement, a pistol and a pipe gun were recovered from a place near Kadda railway bridge. In Jessore, police arrested two people along with a pistol and four sharp weapons at Dhopadi village in Abhoynagar upazila Friday night, reports our Benapole correspondent. Officer in-charge of Abhoynagar PS Ahsan Habib said, on a tip-off that a gang were preparing to commit a robbery at the village, police raided the spot. When the robbers were fleeing, police caught two of them -- Imran Hossain, 25, and Khokon Ali, 22, -- of Dhopati village along with a pistol, three billhooks and a big knife. In Joypurhat, police arrested a man with a revolver and six bullets in Panchbibi upazila on Friday night, reports our Dinajpur correspondent. He was identified as Rezwan Islam, 26, son of Afzal Hossain of Riala village of Kalai upazila of the district. Police said, acting on a tip-off, a team of Pachbibi police, led by ASI Shafiul Alam, raided Chanpara-Bhutbari under the upazila on Friday night and arrested Rezwan along with arms and bullets.
