20 bombs exploded as rival AL groups in C'nawabganj clash

At least 20 bombs were exploded and two people injured during a clash between two rival groups at Chunakhali-Gumpara of Sadar upazila in the district yesterday noon. Police recovered two live hand bombs from the spot. The injured were identified as Fikimon Nesa, 60, and Latifur Rahman, 19, of Chunakhali-Gumpara village under Ranihati union in Sadar upazila in the district. Police and locals said, there had been a longstanding dispute between two groups of local Awami League men -- Bagha and Kamal -- over establishing supremacy in the area. Yesterday, the two groups chased each other with hand bombs at around 12:45pm. They hurled at least 20 bombs, injuring Fikimon and Latifur. In Sirajganj, at least 25 people were injured in a clash between two groups of villagers following an attempt to abduct a schoolgirl at Barabil village in Shahjadpur upazila on Friday. Police said Abdullah, son of Karim Mollah of the village tried to kidnap Sharmin, a Class X student and daughter of Roshnai Pramanik on her way back home from school on Thursday afternoon but failed as she raised a hue and cry. Protesting the incident Roshnai Pramanik went to the house of Karim Mollah Friday morning and demanded punishment to his son Abdullah. Later, the supporters of Karim Mollah launched an attack on the house of Roshnai Pramanik at about 10am triggering a clash that left 25 people injured from both sides.
