Onrush of water from the upstream has washed away a portion of an embankment in Netrakona and developed breaches in another dyke in Habiganj.
A portion of Kirtonkhola embankment washed away in Naiyorirkhal area of Kirtonkhola haor (water body) under Khaliajuri upazila in Netrakona district on Friday night, reports our correspondent.
Locals said, water level of Dhanu River increased following onrush of hill water from the upstream. The Water Development Board (WDB) had repaired the embankment only 20-25 days ago.
Meanwhile boro crops on around 700 hectares in Kirtonkhola, Pangashia, Laxmipasha, Jalorbon, Rangamatia, Sonatola, Pada, Korkoria and Satdila haor area under Khaliajuri upazila were submerged by the flood water.
Locals said, hundreds of people worked round the clock for the last three days to save Kirtonkhola flood protection embankment but all their efforts went in vain.

Water Development Board (WDB) allotted Tk 3.5 lakh for repair of the dyke, but the work did not start as per schedule, locals alleged.
UNO of Ajmiriganj Asif Bin Ikram visited the site and talked to the locals. Villagers told him that the situation may take serious turn, if steps are not taken in a day or two.
