Businessman abducted for ransom

Police on Thursday night rescued a businessman from Idrakpur area of Fatullah four hours after his abduction for ransom.
The victim Nazim Uddin, 34, is hailing from Shyampur in the capital.
Nazim told journalists that he went to a re-rolling mill at Kewtakhali in the area at around 7:30pm on Thursday with Tk 5.5 lakh to buy iron-dust.
Soon after he paid Tk 2.5 lakh to the mill manager, a gang of miscreants, led by Delwar, swooped on the mill and started beating him and drag him out of the mill, alleged Nazim.
At one stage of beating, he fainted. When he got his consciousness back he found himself confined to an abandoned workers colony. The abductors took away the rest Tk 3 lakh from him and demanded Tk 50,000 more from his business partner Kawsar, added Nazim.
Kawsar instantly informed police and Rab of the matter.
Later, alluring the kidnappers to pay the rest Tk 50,000, police conducted a drive in the area and rescued Nazim.
Fatullah Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdul Matin said the abductors managed to flee.
However, police raided Delwar's house late at night and recovered three abandoned motorcycles.
